SKB 66 and Ibanez SZ520 Apr 17, 2008
By George I've been looking to find a light weight and durable case to store my Ibanez SZ520. My first option was to go with an Ibanez case. The Ibanez RG550LC seemed to be very durable but a bit expensive and its wood construction would make it heavy and a bit bulky for me. The classic MC100 case, perfect for my S Style guitar, wasn't right for the SZ shape. I decided to go with the SKB because their website listed the SZ as a guitar model that would fit the 66.
The case that arrived is the latest version of the 66 with the TSA latch. The case handle was made of a hard rubber that provides a good grip. I didn't find the top lid as sturdy or rigid as the MC100 for the same money. The interior plush is pretty good and does the job. I did notice the bottom foam came right out. For whatever reason, the adhesive failed to glue the foam to the bottom of the case.
The lower bout of the SZ fits very snugly in the case. The SZ lower bout is 12.75". Amazon has the case lower bout listed at 13" and SKB's website has it at 12.5". The actual size appears to be 12.75". The neck support raises the upper bout of the SZ off the bottom. So the guitar body isn't completely resting flat. You have to make sure the guitar neck is placed correctly in the neck support groove or the lid won't close.
Closing the lid, I found the fit to be just a tiny bit too snug with very little or no space to clear the volume/tone knobs. I was able to close the case with no difficulty. With it closed, the SZ did not move around. Over time the foam may adjust to the shape of the SZ.
Overall, a decent fit for the SZ but not perfect. If your primary concern is storing your SZ(as is mine), the case will do but you probably can find a cheaper case to do that. Fortunately I had an amazon gift card, so the case cost me nothing.
SKB-66....worth the wait Aug 29, 2011
By OzAdam Needed a case for my Strat, and those G&G tweed-type ones are too expensive for what they are - and your guitar flops around inside them! I know, because I had one with my old Jeff Beck Strat. This SKB on the other hand (just like my acoustic SKB case I've had for about 15 years) is shaped to hold my guitar securely with NO movement at all. Just what I wanted. It looks and feels super-tough, and the TSA latches are fantastic to use. I just hope they hold up. Another thing I really like is the grippy, rubbery-textured handle. It may sound like a silly thing, but it just feels solid in the hand and much nicer to hold on to than the moulded plastic handles you get on regular guitar cases (or G&G's for that matter). So all up, I'm very happy with my purchase and would definitely get another.
In Australia, the inferior SKB-6 ("economy" model) is around $14 cheaper than this shipped from the U.S. through Amazon.....a no brainer to get this instead then, really. I think these are around $200 (AU) over here, so for $144 delivered to my door, I couldn't be happier. Thanks Amazon!
SKB guitar case May 17, 2010
By T. Vandever A great buy for the purchase price. The new fastener design is very efficient and the case is sturdy and accommodating. Good construction throughout.
Great Case Jan 20, 2010
By Conrad McConrad I bought this for my Ibanez SZ 320. It fits very nicely inside. Once in the case closes easily and the guitar stays put. I would recommend this case to anyone, well as long as your guitar fits. Basically, I'm writing this review because I couldn't find any reviews for people using the 320 and if someone else is looking for a case, this one will fit your guitar.
Disappointed Sep 11, 2009

There are a few things one would expect when buying a guitar case. One thing is a little covered pocket to keep extra strings, string winder, picks, etc. The other is that the lining doesn't fall out when you open the case. That's right. The inner styrofoam liner fell down, out of the case when I opened it. Spend a little more cash and get a good case. This one is just too cheap.
