Great Amp If You're Digitally Inclined Oct 19, 2009
By Brian Jett
"Brian G. Jett"
I cannot begin to say what a pleasure this amp is to play. The clean sound is what I play primarily and thus, the 4 star rating. It sounds great clean yet the fiddling around with the menu to get presets that are suitable for jazz and the like take time. No big deal with time issues if you're one well versed with digital menus. For dudes like me (perhaps many) this is a fine piece of workmanship with the built in tuner and all, but I just want to turn on the tube sounding warmth of an old TWIN or VOX and play mellow. Again, if one is inclined, mellow sounds will come out of this superlative amp and I am only thinking of selling mine because I just need less power and less menu stuff.
Like amateur radio, many of the new gear out is menu driven versus simplicity. I am hardly one who does not like to tinker, but when tinkering is all one is doing an playing your instrument takes second seat, there is a slight problem. So, this is based on my ineptitude rather than the amplifier's capabilities and build.
A four out of five is very good given my admission to menu driven gear as a weakness on my part.
You'll love it if you love reading manuals or have much time to tinker. Overall, the amp is superb. PERIOD.

Line 6 really jawdropped me Nov 08, 2009
By Jose Carlos Canjura Wowwww it's the only thing I can say, affordable, powerfull ( wattage ), bareable to any place and of course it's versatility it's impressive.......Don't let other comments discourage you, I've been playing guitar over 16 years and the amp talks for itself........the one people that says is not good it's because they can't play.

By Richard Great amplifier, takes a while to explore the preset sounds and get the ones you like. Has worked well at gigs even outdoors. Had a problem with damage while shipping, however Amazon resolved the problem quickly. Thanks Amazon.
Only does amp modeling Oct 12, 2011

A modeling amp will literally model existing Amps, Artists, and Songs from different years. This amp does not have on board song or drum loops like the Spider Jam. If you are trying to get a specific sound of a band or musician or place in time, then this is your amp. If you need a practice amp, go with the Jam. I have both amps and as far as I am concerned, the Jam is a far better modeling amp as it does what the Spider 4 does plus drum and song tracks that you can play along with plus a whole lot more, even if it is based on the Spider 3 technology with a JM4 Looper as its engine. While the Spider 4 (I have the 150) is a nice amp, it is VERY SPECIFIC to the user needs and is not that flexible. I do not agree that both amps are worthless without the foot pedals, as I used the Jam for a long time without, and only acquired the Express pedal when I ordered the Spider 4. Also be very aware that the Line 6 documentation on their amps is very, very lacking, to put it mildly, and there so-called on line videos and user groups are just as lacking as their documentation.
