Yeah it's plastic, but it's solid! Apr 08, 2011
By Brendon Colby I purchased this for my Line 6 POD HD 500. I hesitated in buying this pedal because of the mixed reviews, but at less than 40% of the cost of a custom designed, all metal constructed pedal, I decided to give it a try (I am just a home guitar hobbyist). I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the pedal is VERY solid and well built. One reviewer said his EX-1 outlasted several PODs, and I believe it! It's plastic, but it's high grade quality plastic, and the feel of pedal in use is very stable. It doesn't feel like junk at all!
I may only use this pedal at home, but wouldn't hesitate to gig with it. It's relatively inexpensive compared to others, and seems like it could take a good beating. I highly recommend it.

It fills a need. Apr 18, 2009
By Eric B. Gordon
"The greatest thing we ever have is the will to survive."
My first Line 6 products were the Flextone II Plus amplifier and FloorBoard foot switch. There were only four things I felt the absence of from that set-up, phaser, stereo/ping-pong delay, pitch shifter and onboard, dedicated compressor. I resolved that I'd someday get another Line 6 unit that would include those features, and the POD XT Live was it. But, it was still incomplete with only one expression pedal to control volume, effects, amplitude, reverb, etc.
The EX-1 is so simple. If you don't alter the programming in the POD XT, the EX just functions as a volume pedal by default, leaving the onboard expression pedal to work as a wah wah pedal. But, I'm using the EX on several presets to control Leslie speed, synth waveform and filter cutoff. I hope to utilize its other capabilities down the line. Something I recommend to anybody with a POD XT/XT Live, or one of Line 6' foot pedal emulators.

Fairly Solid For Plastic Oct 31, 2011

For a plastic pedal with some rubber to grip your foot on top of the pedal, it is decently made. Not as solid as your average pedal made from metal, but it will do. Definitely not as solid as the Line 6 M series it is made to be used with.

Does the job. Aug 16, 2011
By DAN0 This product does exactly what I want. It allows me to adjust effect parameters on the fly. I use 2 of these expression pedals with my Line6 M9. The build quality is not sub par, however it is not a durable steel chasis you can stand on. All in all if it were to break I would replace it with the same product. I would look at other product offerings if you are rough on your equipment or you are using it for Wah.

Works as advertised, but should be more solid for the price Dec 07, 2010
By JVincent I own both a Line6 M9 and an M13 and am using it with the M9 to control the pitch slide and some other effect parameters. The pedal works fine, but it seems like an awful lot of money for something so light and plastic. I would have preferred the heft of a more robust housing, especially considering how bullet proof both the M9 and M13 are. This all said, this pedal works as advertised and might be worth the price if you don't want to take the chances on whether a non Line6 expression pedal will work with your equipment.
On a related note, keep in mind that this pedal does not have a toe switch. In other words, you have to enable the effect on whatever unit you are using this with, and then use this pedal to control the parameter. I specify this for those thinking it will work to control a wah effect. It will, but you won't have the ability to turn the wah on and off from this pedal as you would a classic wah or even some of the Line6 floor pods that have a built in pedal and have a toe switch.
