| | Description | It's back! And it's the real thing: same factory, same components, same housing, same famous seasick green paint. Most important, the same great warm overdrive that made the originals famous. Plug in and crank it up. You'll hear what all the fuss is about. | |

A Great Overdrive Pedal Jan 02, 2009
By Nik Zero
"The Public Image"
The Ibanez TS-9, while not the most versatile dirtbox on the market, is probably the best overdrive pedal I've used.
The number of sounds you can get out of the unit is somewhat limited, but it does what it does very well. If you're looking for a modern-sounding high-gain monster... well, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for that great vintage tube sound that responds to your playing, breaking up more the harder you hit the strings, then the TS-9 is the man for the job.
I've owned several other overdrives in the past, and the one that came closest to the TS-9 in terms of build and sound quality was probably the Boss OD-2 (set midway between overdrive and distortion). I play a Fender American Standard Telecaster through the TS-9 and about 8 other pedals, and run out to a Vox AD100VT amplifier.
The Ibanez pedal has definitely earned a permanent spot on my effects board. I've gotten compliments on my tone from other guitar players at live shows, and most of them can't believe I'm not using one of the vintage TS-808s, let alone a hybrid amp.

Classic overdrive pedal Jan 05, 2011

This green classic is one of the best overdrive pedals around. But don't fool yourself: its scope is very limited. This is NOT a distortion pedal.
If you want to give a little boost to you blues playing (or even a kind of Led Zeppelin sound) this one will help you. If youi're looking for Judas Priest, Scorpions, Metallica sound, no way.
This tube screamer is the "ugly kid" of my pedal board. It's biarre green color, simplicity of the knobs, all of it is differente from the other pedals. But it works, it's tough (like a BOSS pedal) and, boy, how it look nice and efficient next to the BOSS DS-1!

An excellent pedal Aug 22, 2010

I got my new TS9 and I am very happy with it. I purchased that effect, mainly since I need a "sound boost" for my clean play. I used for that some level of reverb or chorus, but it was always changing the original clean nature of the play, hence I looked for a booster, with some volume increase, and very small level of Overdrive, hence it is a perfect one. It provides me the needed result, and the combination of that one with my other pedals (chorus of Ibanez, Phaser of MXR etc.) is excellent.

Colourless overdrive but its the industry standard for Fender players Jul 08, 2011
By sir_isaac_newton ...looking for that certain sound, which a certain (Fender?) amplifier set just so. I find it terribly dull and it sounds like nothing played into a clean transistor amplifier - but that's what is intended, its a relatively clean boost. Seems to be mainly intended for/used by Fender players looking for a fairly clean overdrive from a fairly clean valve amplifier. I hate it! But i have to admit that others, such as Stevie Ray Vaughn make it sound good:).
I've tried the silver modern version & another green one (808?) too, they all sound similarly bland to me and rather overpriced. I guess I didn't have the right amp to appreciate it, or the extremely subtle difference in settings. From reading other's reviews, if you want a Tubescreamer sound and a quality pedal but aren't fussed about the brand, the middle setting on the Boss OD described by a previous reviewer sounds like a good option (I have that pedal too - it has settings from very mild, clear overdrive to heavy overdrive to mild distortion to heavy distortion). BUT...
Give me the beautifully warm, mellow sounding DOD 250 (or its YJM308 modern equivalent) any day of the week. ;) It beat the Tubescreamer, Boss OD or DS1, etc. into a cocked hat, IMHO. Try before you buy ;)
First Impressions Oct 04, 2011
By ZCDarrah I just got this pedal today so I haven't played around with it enough to leave a thorough review, but so far I'm impressed. The overdrive is warm and really alive sounding. I've played around with pairing it with other distortion pedals and the results have been very interested, when I paired it with my Boss Metal Zone the tone was amazing but the background noise was a little much, pairing those with a compressor and adjusting the settings on all three should fix that. It gave me a unique sound that I am looking for. 4 stars for right now.... once I play around some more I'm sure it will jump to 5.
