| | Description | A fun and affordable tribute to a rare and historic Fender amp. Our new Champion 600 is a 5-watt tube amp with a 6” speaker and 1950 “two-tone” looks. We added a higher-gain preamp circuit to let the overdriven tone exceed that of the original, and we added a choice of high- or low-gain inputs. Internal speaker jack enables use of a larger speaker cabinet. | |

Wonderful little amp! Aug 31, 2011
By mattx
"Frequent reader. Infrequent reviewer."
This is a great little tube amp. I would recommend it highly to anyone who likes tube amplifiers or who wants to dabble. It sounds great and overdrives very easily to get a nice crunch without a ton of volume. The small speaker lends a very distinctive sound. I have not upgraded anything on the amp and I am totally happy with it. If you like to have a project amp this would be great for that purpose as well. You could do simple things like a tube or speaker swap or go the whole 9 yards and upgrade the electronics using kits available on the internet.
I would NOT recommend this as your only amplifier because it's not incredibly versatile. If you want lots of different tones grab a Fender Mustang or some other small modeling amp as well. If you are gigging you should probably have an amp with more horse power but I have heard of people having nice results from driving a speaker cabinet with this amp so maybe try that as well.
But if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket grab one of these bad boys. They are really fun!

first tube amp and wow Aug 28, 2011
By Jeremy Craig After wanting a tube amp forever, I received this as a early bday present from my wife. real simple 2 tubes and 1 volume control, plus an external speaker jack. I have played around with this amp for a little over a week or two and it sounds great. I have it hooked into a separate cabinet with a 12 inch speaker and it makes this amp way better and louder. don't let the size fool you it may only be 5 watts, but it's loud. It is louder than my crate glx 30. It's great I love it.

Amazing Little Amp Sep 03, 2010
By DirtRider
"I like to play in the dirt"
I bought this little amp due to the salesman at a local shop raving about it. He was good at his job! He was right. This little sucker POUNDS and does so VERY WELL. It is everything I've ever wanted in a practice amp. It's "Pure Tone" as he put it and he was right.
The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the power switch is now BROKEN. I am not rough with any of my things. This switch died due to severely faulty construction. It is an easy fix but it is a fix I shouldn't have had to do for an amp that is only 1 year old.
Still, you should totally get it. If you are looking at it, get it. You'll be pleased!
*Edit: I fixed the power switch and now I'm 100% happy again. I put it back to 5 stars. A faulty switch is easy to replace. The new one that I got from Fender seems to be a LOT better in construction. Let's hope it stays that way!

Doesn't Get Much Better for a Practice Amp Sep 16, 2011
By S. Moskal I bought this amp a couple of months ago, and I could not be happier. This is my first guitar amp and the first time I am playing guitar. I have a Ibanez Artcore Hollow Body guitar, and like i said its my first guitar. I chose this amp because I am partial to tube amplification. I am big into home theater and tubes are the way to go for sound quality. That being said, I just wanted an amp that sounded good regardless how bad I am.
Out of the box, the Fender Champ is small and very nice looking. It does not get anymore simple, two inputs, on/off switch, and volume. No effects, no tone control (leave that up to your guitar). I does sound pretty good out of the box, little hum. This amp is great for just practicing, gets plenty loud but it will not keep up with the bigger amps.
When buying this amp, you must change the tubes immediately. I switched to the JJ tubes, and it is like a whole new amp. Its louder, but more notably the distortion when you crank this amp over 9 is just phenomenal. The sound is just so nasty and dirty, the perfect distorted sound. I've used many distortion pedals (for lower volume distortion), and they do not do justice. Then at lower volumes, it cleans up perfectly.
This amp over all, is fantastic. It is a little overkill for my application (beginner), but it is also perfect for a beginner because if you can sound good on here, you can sound good on any amp. I've used many amps before and if you stack enough effects, you will sound good regardless. This is a no frills, all sound quality amp that is great for a casual player.

Great at low volumes, but... Sep 06, 2011
By C. Converse ...the 6" speaker it comes with simply can't handle what the amp puts out. I'd kill to have this in an 8" version (which I imagine would be similar to the Epiphone Valve Junior).
Anyway, you're going to get some 60Hz hum from the power lines, no getting around that. I hear some mods can help cut this down, but honestly it's subtle enough I haven't bothered (but I'm not recording or anything with it). Other than that, plenty of nice, warm tone out of this thing...but don't expect much in the way of distortion. By the time you get the volume up to the point where the amp breaks up, you're going to be driving the speaker far beyond what it can take...for a muddy, farty mess.
Throw a Big Muff in front of it, on the other hand, and you can have some serious fun with it.
If you want an idea of what this amp -could- be, hook it up to an external cab sometime. I ran it to a 12" speaker, and oh man did it sound amazing. It's possible than a replacement 6" might help...at the very least, you can get something that simply has NO response down on the low end rather than the loose, sloppy response that the stock speaker has. This would be an improvement. I've also seen some people do some hacking into it and cram an 8" speaker into it, which might be worth the trouble. Overall, however, you have to ask yourself how much money you want to put into a $150 amp...at a certain point, you could have just picked up a used Blues Junior instead (even in roughly the same blonde two-tone color scheme).
Still, I don't regret the purchase one bit. I kept it stock, and still play on it often.
