DOA Mar 03, 2011
By billy shears Dead on arrival. I feel that if it did work i would have enjoyed it, but there was something wrong with the input. Also when I managed to get some sound out of it (nothing like what it should be able to do) some of the effects were coming in and out at random times. I see this happening to other people as well so be cautious when ordering this product.

Affordable Solid State From Crate, Sounds Great For Cheap Apr 22, 2010

"The Musician"
Crates have been making amps since the 70's, along the way of becoming guitarists go to amp for their amazing price, they've established a thorough fan base with classic models such as the Blue Voodoo an all tube head. Specifically though Crate has released an all new run of amps, ranging from 15watts up to 120watts (along with heads), called Flexwave. These are the natural progression of the last run, for those familiar I'm referring to models like the XT120R and the XT65R (both combo amps).
This specific model is very much like the XT120R, featuring an amazing overdrive, a versatile clean channel and a sought after high gain channel. Crate has never let me down with their reverb; it's very atmospheric and can push a solo to a new realm (or gloss mistakes for sloppy guitarist). Flexwaves are durable, and affordable! The FW120 delivers quality tones and sound for a price that won't disrupt your budget. One of my former Crates eventually bit the dust, or so I thought. Using the speaker input, I plugged it into a pair of speakers and saved it. You can sit on them, have them accidentally fall over, crowd the back with garbage and they'll last.
I downloaded the manual off the Crate home page. I never realized how many struggle with this amp due to `Channel Tracking'. This feature saves effects on all three channels, so when you toggle between them you don't have to readjust anything. Channel tracking was brought on by the Evolution 5 Preamp. People tend to dislike this for whatever reason; personally this is a plus in my book. Effects (DSP) on this amp range from your typical phaser and flange to a reasonable chorus and distinctive reverb. There are variants of delay to be found here too. This head should come with a foot switch to toggle on and off channels, switch one is clean, two is overdrive, and both on is high gain. The third switch is for effects.
If you like hard rock overdrive will suit your needs, high gain will be pleasurable to metalheads, and the clean channel with enough tinkering can be euphoric. Currently these heads can run you about 300$. I purchased one refurbished for 200$. I'm running this through an older 90's Crate cab, sound just fine.
