5incredible tone  Aug 25, 2009 By S. Hawkins
I work for a guitar store and am a bit of a gear snob so when i heard about the new Bugera line i was skepitcal. the day a single V22 arrived at our store i opened the box and was taken aback at how good the amp looked. i plugged it in, grabbed my favorite Tele and was blown away by the tone! after about 10 minutes of playing with this amp i placed it back in the box and bought it. I'm not the biggest fan of the triode tone though for someone i'm sure it's perfect. triode defintaley sounds better with the dirty channel and gives you that 60's garage rock tone. but in full pentode mode the amp really sings. for reference, i play clean instemental style, sufy, spaghetti westerny type stuff. the dirty channel is good but for for serious shredders this amp probably lacks the gain you would want but that's why they make pedals right? it's also doubtful that 22 watts would turn to many shredders on any how but it's plenty loud for most 100-200 people venues i play. there is a line out when i need to use it in bigger venues and an effects loop that is clean and noise free. though i like my spring verb tank, the digital reverb sounds great and is foot switchable with the included foot switch. for the price tag, this amp rivals many more expensive amps. i tried it back to back with a Fender vibrolux and the Bugera won by a mile. time will tell how durable it is but so far, it's my new favorite amp.

5Quality of this amp? Priceless!  Jul 27, 2010 By Robin Ray "redrobin62"
I'm surprised it's taken me this long to write about this amp - I guess I've been too busy having mega much fun with it. I bought it about 3 months ago. I play it here in my apartment. I drag it over to our band's practice space and jam with it there. We (MOON recorded our 6-song EP (The Moon EP) with it. I've schlepped it to several venues both indoor and out and have even loaned it out to other bands on the same bill. This amp is a workhorse. It's been holding up well. There is still not one single problem with it. Switches work fine. Buttons engage like they're supposed to. All connections are without static, hum, or buzz.

Tube amps "speak" for themselves. Sorry, solid state. No matter how hard the manufacturers try to create "tube-sounding" electronics there is just no comparison to the liveliness, character, depth, and tone you achieve from a tube amp. And what makes this baby extra special is the fact it's a dual channel amp - clean & dirty can be activated, as well as reverb, by a heavy-duty footswitch. It also boasts an effects loop. Rare for an amp in this price range. I like the fact that the reverb is digital. True, there's nothing like an authentic "springy" reverb. I've used them before in Westbury amps, etc. But that "spring" ringing has an "aftersound" like a trail that can be unwanted at times; also spring reverbs require another vacuum tube circuit which makes them prone to burn out. This reverb is absolutely clear and rich - as if someone slapped a Lexicon unit in it.

The look of the amp itself screams vintage. Other guitarists are fooled by it and think it's a $2000 boutique amp. Well, it IS a boutique amp - it just doesn't cost $2000. There's something to be said about an amp that sports controls for bass, mid, mid boost, treble, and presence. Quite a lot of versatility here. There's also a switch in the back that can change the power tubes from pentode to triode. I leave it at pentode - full blast - and just turn the master volume down. My neighbors don't complain. This 22W baby sounds good in this apartment as well and in the other venues I've carted it to.

The last point I'd like to make is it's open-back design. That's something a lot of guitarists take for granted. With an open back design, and with the amp positioned well in proximity to a wall, you create a sort of bass-reflex design as the sound is bounced of the wall enhancing the low end and "spraying" the sound out in a wider field. The open back design is also great for the drummer who can hear your amp clearer over the din of his skins and cymbals especially if it's positioned to his side as in a gig.

In summary: great amp, great price, holding up on the road so far (excellent protective cage for the fragile tubes, BTW). I do have one peeve. At two shows I'd wished the power cable was longer by about a foot. In any case, since it's detachable, I can always get a longer one. The open-back design also creates a need cavity for storing cables, the footswitch, manuals, etc. I highly recommend anyone thinking about buying a boutique valve amp pay attention to this one than less to the $1000 - $2000 ones I've seen elsewhere.

5Bugera V22 Rocks!  May 22, 2010 By Robert J. Wilson "Puter Guy"
This amp is awesome for the price and will probably go up in price soon. (that is what happened to the Blackheart, which was $249 a year ago and is now $349) I have been wanting a Tube amp for years and just never got past me having to pay $600 or more. I got this for $349 and it sounds almost as good as the $600 Tube amp. I mean it really sounds great where the clean sings beautifully and the lead channel kicks a??. It came with three additional features that the more expensive tube amp did not have and it is almost half the price. I don't now how I used pedals for distortion all these years... oh yea... I had solid state amps that the distortion just does not compare to this. It breaks up and sounds so nice, words just can't explain it. I hooked my pedal up through the clean and it sounds so digital and not full of life, I just love this amp more than I can say.

5What a great value  May 08, 2011 By David Jenkinson
I don't write many reviews but am compelled to write one here. I didn't know what I was missing with my tone until I got this amp. I have a fender VG strat, and this amps clean tones are so nice. I also have a processor in front of it, a digitech rp1000, and with this combination I have a near unlimited amount of tones.
The amps dirty channel gives you a really nice classic crunch sound, adjustable with the gain/volume controls. The triode/pentode modes give you yet more tonal options. I'm finding I'm using more of the triode mode, as you can drive it a bit more at lower volume, and I'm using it so far exclusively for recording so I don't need it that loud. I highly recommend this amp. I'm sure there are great sounding tube amps out there, haven't used them all obviously, but the value on this amp is the really great thing about it.

5Incredible amp, for any price  May 09, 2012 By Steve Klotz
I have been using this amp for 2 years now on stage and in the studio. I typically play 2-3 gigs a week with it. Simply put, it shines. Actually, it outshines my $2000 Mesa Engineering Dual Rectifier by a long shot. The only thing I wish it had (only a little bit) is a recording out function, but it sounds so beautiful it needs to be mic'ed anyway for recording. The clean channel is warm and punchy and full of colorful, warm, rich tones. The gain channel has a unique and beautiful distortion. Although I only use a little bit of gain for my setup, it'll get a ton of growl. At 22 watts, it is perfect for a small stage with drums. Any louder and I want the guitar in the PA. If you're looking for a sparkling, warm clean tone this is as good as I've heard - and cheap too. Awesome!
