DistX creat pedal it's worth the money Feb 09, 2012
By J.A I got a peavey solid state and using this in front, it sound really good, I love this pedal over the boss mt2, it has a fat sound you can play many styles not just for metal, easy it will do heavy metal, hard rock, great sustain and fat distortion

By Nate W. Like the reviewer above, I also have the ht-dual along side my distx. I initially wanted a distx, but got the dual after finding one for a good price on ebay, but that's a different review. I decided to go ahead and get the distx in addition to the dual when I found my self having to max out the dual's gain and/or use an od pedal to get enough gain but was left desiring a bit more gain and bite. The distx really delivers in getting that rectifier tone I was going for. I was somewhat disappointed that I could not get that razor sharp, almost solid state tone (think early deftones or meshuggah) from the distx, but an eq pedal takes care of that, along with the realization that you don't get a tube pedal for ss tone. This pedal is solid for sure, but the switch seems to be different from the once on my dual. This, like the dual seems to react like you'd expect a tube preamp to. My guitars do not all sound alike through this pedal, which can be a bit annoying for the sake of consistency, but it also let's me know that this is the real deal, and not just one sound to cover up the signal. I've read a lot of reviews about swapping the tubes in these pedals. While doing so voids the warrant, it apparently improves the tone. I've tried this with a couple different 12ax7's (a JJ, a mesa, and a better sovtek). I haven't really noticed that much of a difference. Swapping is a breeze if you choose to do so however, just unscrew the top plate, lift the tube holder, and wiggle that guy loose. All in all, if you're looking for a natural, tube amp sounding straight up distortion pedal, this is great. If you want something with more versatility, and don't need mark IV levels of gain, the dual will do great to get everything from a slight boost/ break up, to tool / alice in chains kinds of tones.

nice pedal, but over priced Apr 14, 2010

I bought this pedal thinking it could replace my Sansamp GT2 and my Damage Control Solid Metal pedal. The reality was it could not replace either pedal. I use the sansamp to go direct to a boom box when i play at night and i use the DCSM pedal in front of a clean amp for some serious high gain tones. The Distx has a nice creamy tube like tone but it certainly isn't the "filth" machine that is used in the marketing by Blackstar. The gain control on this pedal has a limited range similar to the tone controls and past 2 'o clock the gain just bottoms out and the pedal just gets noisier. The ISF feature is also a huge disappointment as there isn't a very dramatic difference from the opposite ends of the dial. For the same price you could get the DCSM pedal, add an inexpensive DI box and you would have a combo that has much better tones than the Distx.

MUST HAVE FOR METAL PLAYERS,SOLID-STATE AMP OWNERS Feb 02, 2010
By C. BRUCE BLACKSTAR IS AN AWESOME AMP COMPANY FROM THE UK.RUMOR IS IT WAS STARTED BY SOME MARSHALL EMPLOYEES, AND THEY HAVE PICKED UP AMP MAKER VIRTUOSOES/MODIFIERS.THEY REALLY DO NOT MAKE ANY INFERIOR PRODUCTS-READ UP ON THEM,THEY WILL PEAK YOUR INTEREST.I OWN THE HT-DUAL, WHICH IS A 2 CHANNEL VERSION W/ TUBE CLEAN, CRUNCH, BOOST, OVERDRIVE,DISTORTION,AND 2 STAGE GAIN-1 HIGH-GAIN,AND I USE IT W/ A 15W MARSHALL SOLIDSTATE. I HAVE USED THE HIGH GAIN AND IT IS A MONSTER, HAS A LIL' MORE BITE THAN THE DUAL, BUT THE HIGH GAIN IS AS ADVERTISED, A FILTH MACHINE. LOW GAIN WILL GIVE YOU STAIND,11-1,2 O'CLOCK GETCHA METALLICA, 2-3 PANTERA/ SLAYER, AND THEN YOU ENTER THE DIMMU,CRADLE,CARCASS,MORBID ANGEL,C.CORPSE MODE PAST 3 O'CLOCK. THESE ARE 16VOLT PEDALS BUT COME W/ POWER SUPPLY-HARD TO HOOK UP TO MULTI-CHARGERS,EVEN THE ONES W/ 16V OUTLETS LIKE BBE-EVEN SO, IT IS WORTH HAVING TO PLUG THESE THINGS IN! THE "ISF" FEATURE IS TOTALLY UNIQUE TO BLACKSTAR, AND IS A TONAL DREAM;THE ISF IS HALF THE REASON TO OWN ONE OF THESE-TWEEK IT WITH THE EQ AND GAIN AND VOL.,THE TONES ARE ENDLESS. BLACKSTAR MAKES 5 TYPES OF PEDALS, BASED ON YOUR STYLE, ONE IS A MUST-HAVE FOR YOU. IF YOU USE A SMALL SOLID STATE PRACTICE AMP, THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE! ALTHOUGH THESE AFE JUST AS GOOD W/ TUBE AMPS; THEY JUST MAKE YOUR TUBE AMP'S TONE EVEN BETTER. THESE ARE BASICALLY PEDAL-VERSION TUBE PRE-AMPS/DISTOTION FX, EACH VARYING IN EFFECT LEVEL,TYPE,AND PRICE. **JUST SOME HINTS,TRY PUTTING THIS AS EARLY IN YOUR PEDAL CHAIN AS POSSIBLE;ITS GREAT BEFORE&AFTER YOUR WAH-TRY IT, AND NO MATTER WHAT PEDALS YOU USE,I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A BBE SONIC MAXIMIZER AT THE END OF ANY CHAIN, ONLY BEFORE NOISE SUPPRESSORS , EITHER ON YOUR PEDALBOARD OR RACK EFFECTS-MAKES EVERYTHING MORE CRISP AND CLEAR.HOPE THIS HELPS YOUR SOUND AND PLAYING.IM SURE OZZY'S NEW GUITAR PRODIGY GUS G. WILL BE "PEDALLIN'" THESE PEDALS/AMPS IN GUITARS MAGS SOON ENOUGH.
