Not a Good Pro Performance Amp Apr 08, 2012
By RickD Here is the thing about Behringer. Their wattage rating is not the same as a U.S. wattage rating. They do NOT use RMS as the standard. Their wattage ratings are actually about 1/3 of what our power amp ratings are in the U.S. BE WARY of Behringer amp ratings. Lucky for me, I bought this amp new for $75 (local auction) and used it one night in a 5 piece band playing Pop and R & B. The amp could not keep up in terms of volume. I had to max out the master and the preamp to be heard well. Mid way through a 3 set night, I pushed the VT Switch which boosts the power amp a little and the speaker started to smoke and smell bad. I had to back off the output to make it through the show.
The pots are plastic and wobbly, the tone controls are weak in their control, Humbucker guitars work better than a Strat with single coils. Feedback comes way to early in the drive channel, therefore, volume has to stay low.
I discovered later that the amp loses audio power after an hour or two of constant playing. This is due to heat. Behringer knows this, which is why there is a fan in the back. I have a 65 watt Fender that is way louder and stays that way all night without any fans.
This amp is only good for home use, a coffee house, or a very small club. But since the amp is taller than necessary, the VT-100 is not practical to carry around.
A good amp, BUT.... Feb 13, 2012
By Mango Fugue So first off I'll say I like this amp. All the Behringer haters haven't listened to this, obviously, as the sound is good. It nice clean, with the built in reverb, or with the crunch (this is good for classic rock type of distortion, and that fuzzy sound). Switch into overdrive and you've got a more modern metal sound. The contour knob gives you a real rough or heavy metal distortion. And once in overdrive you also have a button for two types of distortion. You also have DECENT quality delay/chorus/ flanger effects.
The virtube circuitry, isn't a real tube system, but I like it. I'm sure someone who uses tube amps would say it doesn't sound like a real tube amp, but to me it's good enough.
It also has enough power to shake your chest and ears, be careful once you get passed half way up on the master volume.
BUT after owning the amp for two years, the input jack gets too loose, and the amp doesn't give sound. So I have to pay $40-70$ for repairs (I'm not sure as it is still being repaired at the moment).
So I like the amp, but having a dead input jack is really annoying, I can't say whether to buy it or go for a simpler amp. The Fender Frontman 212r is also affordable, and maybe more reliable, but doesn't have all the effects that this one has. It's your choice...
love this amp Sep 14, 2011

I can't inmagine that anyone could find fault with anything that this amp does. I love it's clean sound and when it is cranked and "nasty". It's not a tube amp but the Virtube circuitry sounds very good to me at higher levels as well. At 100W it's hard to crank it often because the neighbors a block away complain. The effects in-out capability is wonderful and I use my stomp boxes in-line. What's not to like? Unless it would make me sound like Eric Clapton. Probably not related to the amp.
Best Amp for its size Aug 30, 2011
By jtwardy10 I use this amp all the time. It has a ton of effects and is great for the price. I still have yet to be able to turn it up to full volume because it is so loud :)
